Assiniboine Chorus thrives because of the energy and talents of the people who have stepped up to lead. Here are a few of the fabulous women that make our ensemble tick:
Marlaine is a founding member of the Assiniboine Show Chorus and, after being Assistant Director for many years, became the Chorus's Director in June 2009. In her first year as our Director, Marlaine led us to 5th place medals at the Can-Am Regional competition. She also directs The Happy Homesteaders men's barbershop chorus (since 2000). Marlaine has enjoyed singing in a quartet ever since she joined Sweet Adelines and currently sings tenor in Honeycomb quartet. A talented and accomplished pianist, Marlaine also plays flute in the New Horizons Band.
Sherrie has a B. Ed degree majoring in music and drama as well as many years of training and experience in barbershop directing since falling in love with this art form way back in ’73. She has directed several choruses and gospel groups, coached choruses and quartets, and has nearly 38 years of quartet singing under her belt. Sherrie recently retired as Director of the Winnipeg Golden Chordsmen after more than 12 years. She currently teaches voice and piano from home and sings lead in Honeycomb quartet in addition to sharing her considerable musical talents and expertise with the chorus.
