The Assiniboine Chorus is delighted to welcome its new director, Brittany Mielnichuk, a conductor and vocalist originally from central Alberta. She recently completed a Master of Music in Choral Conducting at the University of Manitoba with Dr. Elroy Friesen. Brittany also holds a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies from Capilano University, and an Associate of Arts Degree in Professional Music from Southwestern Community College.
Brittany has taught music privately and performed as a vocalist in numerous ensembles in Vancouver, Red Deer and now Winnipeg. She has also had the opportunity to develop as a conductor and teacher through several notable experiences. In February of 2017, Brittany was chosen to work with Jon Washburn in the Vancouver Chamber Choir’s National Conductors’ symposium; she was selected as a student conductor to participate in the choral conducting masterclass lead by Michael Zaugg at the 2016 Podium Choral Conference and Festival; Brittany was the apprentice conductor for the 2014 Alberta Youth Choir under the direction of Dr. Rollo Dilworth; and she also worked closely with Lisa Ward as a student conductor for the Choral Singers Unite Society in Red Deer, Alberta.
Welcome, Brittany! The chorus looks forward to having you take its sound to the next level.
