Assiniboine Chorus is a membership organization of female singers who meet regularly to practice, perform, socialize, and have fun. We currently have over 40 singers of all ages, all walks of life, and all parts of the Winnipeg and surrounding areas.
Our Mission Statement
The Assiniboine Chapter, through good leadership, education, competition, discipline and dedication, strives toward excellence and enjoyment in singing four-part harmony, Barbershop Style.
The main purpose of Assiniboine Chorus is to get out and sing for our community. We sing at annual shows, a number of community events throughout Winnipeg and southern Manitoba, and at an annual competition. We are available to sing at your next function or event.
In addition to sharing our music with others, another great passion of ours is learning more about the art of a cappella singing. Vocal instruction is a regular part of chorus rehearsals and a very important component of the chorus experience. A couple of times a year, we receive coaching from a visiting master in the art of barbershop music where we hone our skills and learn many fabulous tricks of the trade.
Competition In the spring of every year, Assiniboine Chorus hopes to participates in the Region 6 chorus competition. Competitions are a special time for quartets and choruses from all over our region to come together to sing for each other and get some constructive feedback from a panel of judges. Assiniboine Chorus is proud to have won several medals at competition over the years. The winners of the regional competition in both quartet and chorus categories get to travel to International Competition, which is held in the fall in a city selected each year.
Most choruses have a number of members who form their own vocal quartets in addition to singing with the chorus. Assiniboine Chorus currently is home to a number of wonderful quartets, and we are very proud of them! Click here to see our quartet section and get to know a little more about them.
Assiniboine Chorus is a chapter of Sweet Adelines International (SAI), a non-profit organization of approximately 21,000 members in choruses and quartets worldwide. The SAI Headquarters is in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Read about this fabulous organization by visiting their website.
